The balance is great! My kids love it! My balance didn't come with instructions. I had to view the image online, then guess how to put it together. Other than that, it is a fabulous tool!

This manipulative is fantastic for teaching the algebraic concept of balancing equations. You can place any number of the blue tags on any combination of numbers one side of the balance, and you may balance it using any number of tags on the other side, as long as the sums are equal. In fact, it will not level out until the sums on each side are equal. Also, helpful, obviously, is that if you are adding numbers to the lesser side (which will be the elevated side), and the child adds too many, he can instantly see that he must take some away because it will then sink too low without leveling. My son is gifted, mathematically, and this has made the concept of basic algebra extremely clear to him (since he was five). My daughter is now five, and I will be working with her on it, too. She is also bright, but does not "breathe numbers" as my son does. I will try to post how it works for her after she is familiar with it.

My husband and parents were amazed when they saw the Math Balance and watched as my 7-year-old and my 5-year-old used it. They thought that it was a great way to reinforce addition concepts. My children love using it and it sure beats filling out a worksheet - they automatically know if their addition is correct.

I know it is a math tool but honestly my children think is a toy! Don't you just love it when your children can learn so much, without the use of paper and pencil, and truly enjoy themselves?!
