This kit has 130 chemistry games covering unit conversions, periodic table, ionic compounds, density, and concentrations. These games will support anyone learning about basic chemistry, from the middle-school student to the college student who are wanting to learn and practice their chemistry skills.

Michelle Clark, college professor from Johnson County Community College, has joined forces with Dr. Joan A. Cotter to create chemistry card games! Not only do the games provide practice, but they will also teach the various topics.

Math literacy is fundamental to student success in chemistry courses. Chemistry students of all ages benefit from a review of basic mathematical operations, as well as a reframing of math itself. Research demonstrates that student difficulties in chemistry do not arise from the application of math to chemistry, but rather the students’ underlying mathematical deficits before enrolling in chemistry. In other words, without a good mathematics foundation, many students find chemistry challenging to learn.

These fresh and fun games enable the players to succeed with the mathematics in chemistry and to enjoy using math to solve chemistry problems. Chemistry Card Games was created with many of the same underlying foundational concepts used in Math Card Games, the games used in the RightStart™ Math curriculum. Included in the kit:

  • Chemistry Card Games book

    • Atomic Cards
    • Conversion Cards

Even my 5th grader loves it!

I knew that this product is designed for older students (advanced middle school/high school/college) and my children are only ages 10, 8 and 5... but I just couldn't wait to try it out! We are a science family, and are studying chemistry this year and I felt confident at least some of the games would be accessible. I was right! We are working our way through the Periodic Table section of games and they are great for my 5th grader! I have no doubt that by her upper middle school years, she will be able to tackle the conversion problems and more. She loves science and math - and I was a high school chemistry teacher - so this is right up our ally. This will be a resource we use for MANY years. Also, I wish this set existed back when I taught high school chemistry! I made up several games on my own, but none were as nice as these. I would use this in a classroom setting in a heartbeat! But I am content in my homeschool teacher role now... so it will be well used and loved in our homeschool!
